The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

All mankind is from Adam & Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white – except by piety & action.

American political activist Angela Davis wrote: ‘In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.’ 

What is anti-racism? 

In the simplest of terms, anti-racism refers to actions which actively oppose all forms of racism. It is a commitment to fight against systems and behaviours that allow racism to continue. Unlike non-racism, anti-racism is about making an active, conscious effort, rather than just disapproving but remaining passive. 

In fact, anti-racism acknowledges the fact that no one (of any race) is perfectly ‘non-racist’ – it would be impossible to be while we still grow up and live in a world where racism exists in many forms – but it gives us the tools to work both on ourselves and on society.
